Baby Food: Roasted Pear Puree

Pears are a great first food for babies.  Roasting them and adding a little cinnamon and vanilla during the puree process adds a sweet twist to the already delicious pear puree.

Roasted Pear Puree

Ingredients:

  • 3 whole pears
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla
  • 0.25 tsp cinnamon

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400F.  Slice pears in half and remove core.  Lay pears face down in a glass baking dish.  Place in oven and roast for 20 minutes or until pears are tender.  Allow to cool and then peel.  Add pears, cinnamon, and vanilla to blender.  Puree until smooth and desired consistency is reached. 

Freezing Directions:

Transfer mixture to a non freezer gallon bag.  Cut a small hole in the bottom corner of the bag and use it to pour/squeeze the puree into ice cube trays.  DO NOT OVERFILL.  Only fill each cube to the sides and not overflowing the sides.  Cover each tray with aluminum foil and label.  Freeze for at least 24 hours before dividing among indicated number of quart sized freezer storage bags.  TO SERVE:  Thaw desired number of cubes.  Warm in microwave for 5-10 seconds before serving if desired.

Servings: 18 cubes

    Do you purée with the peel still on?

      Hi Melissa! It’s personal preference as well as what your baby can handle. The peel will make the puree a bit thicker usually. I personally always left the peel on for my kids because of the nutrients and time saving of not peeling pears!
