Document Update

As you can see we have a NEW way of getting and printing your monthly menu documents. As part of that change, we have also changed the type/size of labels we use. The above labels will print four to a page and line up with Avery 8168/5168 labels or equivalent.

Pinterest:

Are you a person that likes to see the menus visually? Perhaps you should check out the October 2013 Diet Menu via Pinterest to see the yummy goodness you will be cooking up on this menu. Not sure what Pinterest is all about, check out what Once A Month Meals has to say about it.

  • This menu will be pinned some time before the end of the day on the 2nd.

Test Cooks

Each month we have some wonderful volunteers who “test” out the menu prior to publication. They do an amazing job of helping to eliminate confusion and mistakes. They may not catch everything but they sure do catch A LOT! If you are interested in test cook, feel free to volunteer. Here is a little bit about this month’s test cooks:

  • Cece Braun - A mom who struggled for 3 years to get pregnant with her first child, found out quickly after his birth that you CAN get pregnant by having sex, gave birth to twins, and had one die completely unexpectedly in her sleep at 5 days old. Blogging about life with 2 small children, handling loss, and a crazy extended family to boot. Also a rather crafty gal – who loves to knit and quilt… and is trying to cover every square inch of her children with knitted items before they get old enough to protest. 1. Thank you so much for including my Pepperoni Pizza Melt in your October recipes! Your list sounds very yummy!
    With my best wishes,

These recipes look terrific. I am new to this – this is my second set of recipes. I am planning my first cooking day this weekend. I’m curious… What happened to the WW ppv on these recipes? Can I find them somewhere else, or will I need to calculate them on my own?

  3. Penny Buff says:

I have been cooking once a month on and off for over 20 years and it is the world’s best time saver! But I am new to your site and plans. They look fabulous and I can’t wait to try them. My question is where is says the meal plans are based on serving the recipes two times each, are the shopping list and prep sheets geared to make two recipes worth, or should I plan to double??

    Thanks! Penny

    • Katie says:

Hi Penny! Welcome. The documents already account for the recipes to be doubled. So, if you select 4 servings, it will give you enough to make recipe #1 for 8 servings that you package into 2 containers. If you want to have even more than that, you can choose 8 servings and it would give you enough for 16 that you then could package into four different containers serving 4 people each. Make sense? If not, feel free to ask away. :)

  4. Tracey says:

I can not figure out how to open the docs in google drive?

  5. Tzippora Steele says:

I *LOVE* the new recipe cards and shopping lists! So much faster and a great layout for converting to my electronic shopping list!! Great job :)

  6. Kimberly Hodel says:

I love the new format, not only of the site but in the documents. They seem very easy to use. On the recipe cards, I see the prep and freezing instructions, but I don’t see the thaw and serve instructions. Am I looking in the wrong spot?

    • Katie says:

Hi Kimberly, for now they are just on the labels. I think we will be adding them back to the recipe cards in the near future as it seems the overwhelming majority of people prefer to have them there. :)

      • Jacinda says:

As a newbie, I love the thawing and cooking instructions being on the labels. Maybe they could stay both places? I’m pretty sure I’d end up having to go back online to look them up if they weren’t on the labels. :)

  7. Rachel Bolin says:

My computer is actually having trouble printing from the site, and when I try to copy and paste so that I can type directly into the chart, or condense so I don’t print so many pages, the new format doesn’t seem to work work in google docs or in a blank document. I’m sure I’ll figure it out like I figured out how to use google docs, but if you have any suggestions I’d appreciate it! Thanks!

    • Kelly says:

Rachel yes the new format does not let you directly edit the documents. You can save as a pdf to your computer though and try to print both sides if that helps too!

      • Beloved569 says:

How do you save the docs as PDFs?

        • Kelly says:

We’re working on a tutorial to show you but I believe you can go to select printer and most operating systems have an option to print or save as pdf.

      • Rachel Bolin says:

I think I have printer problems, too. Will try pdf, and I always print on scrap to save paper :)
Also, I do like to just pull up the recipes on the tablet for kitchen day, and the new look is nice online. Would love to see the shopping list condense for print-off in the future!

  8. Beloved569 says:

I’ve been reviewing the recipes against the shopping lists and can’t see where 28 oz of bagel would be needed in addition to the 14 sandwich thins. Please clarify.

  9. Christine says:

For the Chicken White Pizza the ingredients say bagels but the instructions say bagel thins. Which would you recommend?

  10. Melanie says:

I am having so much fun today! It’s my first BIG COOKING DAY! Thanks to all your posts and “The Secret Handbook” things are running very smoothly! Quick question: Do I let the chicken cutlets and the sauce come to room temperature before bagging and freezing? Thanks! And I am already getting excited about doing it again! Of course I still have several recipes to go… :)

    • Katie says:

Hi Melanie, it doesn’t have to come to completely room temperature but you do want it to cool off before you put it in the freezer. Otherwise, the heat will cause moisture inside the bag or pan and moisture is what causes freezer burn. Hope that helps! And you are doing a GREAT job!! :)

  11. activeMJC says:

Hello! This is my first time trying out one of your menus. The Diet Menu for Oct looks great. I was, however, under the impression that nutritional info would be provided with each recipe. I just checked the recipe cards and don’t see it. Am I looking in the wrong place?

  12. Rachel Thompson says:

This weekend will be my first time cooking with the newly format documents. So far they look great! I have been using your menus and site for about 2 years now and can’t imagine not doing a big cooking day. A mom of 2 girls working full time – this is a MAJOR time saver. And they are delish meals. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK ON THIS SITE :)

    • Katie says:

Hi Rachel! Happy cooking this weekend! I’m glad to hear you are enjoying the look of the new documents. Keep an eye out because there are more exciting updates coming VERY soon. :)
