Gluten Free Dairy Free Enchilada Sauce


This is a great enchilada sauce recipe that your family can enjoy without the worry of added ingredients and gluten or dairy.  Feel free to use it in place of any enchilada sauce.

  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (ensure GF)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin (ensure GF)
  • 3 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces crushed fire roasted tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon balsamic or red wine vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons dried cilantro


Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.  Saute the onion and spices for 5 minutes.  Stir in the remaining ingredients and let simmer.  Cover and cook for 15 minutes. Place in blender and pulse for 10 seconds or until desired consistency. Use in recipe as indicated.

Freezing Directions:

Store any leftover in quart size freezer bags.  TO SERVE:  Thaw.  Use in recipe as indicated.
