Test Cooks

Each month we have some wonderful volunteers who “test” out the menu prior to publication. They do an amazing job of helping to eliminate confusion and mistakes. They may not catch everything but they sure do catch A LOT! If you are interested in test cook, feel free to volunteer. Here is a little bit about this month’s test cooks:

  • Debbie Evans –   I am a mother of 3 grown children, and my oldest son and his wife and my grandson live with us, so meal time
needs to be organized!! Also, this was a great time for our family to cook together and have some fun!!

The link to the breakfast burritos is broken, goes to the wrong page :)

  2. Angela Huber says:

Skyline Chili link is not working either!

  3. Roberds says:

Many of these recipes contain sour cream, mozzarella & butter, so I am confused why they are labeled as dairy free. If you pay & sign up does that show the dairy substitutions?

    • Tricia says:

Yes, the substitutions/adaptions are only available to our paid members. We like to showcase other bloggers though so we link their original recipe up as the inspiration.

  4. Samantha says:

My son does not like the dairy substitute daiya cheeses. Is that something you suggest? I want to do membership but if there are a lot of recipes with cheese in them not sure how that would work. Milk is easy for me to sub as well as butter but the cheese he will not eat even when I cook them in something. Are there a lot of recipes on the GFDF menus that need subs? Thanks!

We are moving away from the recipes that call for cheese substitutes. We were getting a lot of comments like yours, where people cannot find an acceptable substitute. So now if I do have a recipe that calls for cheese, it is something that is only optional, such as a taco or breakfast casserole. The cheese would be a nice addition if you like cheese, but isn’t needed for the recipe. I hope this helps as you make your decision. I personally use a vegan cheese block and then shred it or use it how I need it. BUT, I recognize that everyone has different taste. With that in mind–we are trying to stay away from those recipes that call for cheese. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask! You will see this change effective in the June menu. The May menu has a few recipes that call for cheese-but the only one that it might affect the taste would be the Quinoa Pizza Bites. I’m not even sure that the DF taste would be noticed. I do hope you will give us a chance. We do take your feedback and opinions into account, which is why we have made this move in our menu choices! Thanks!

Hi :) I love the cheese because I’m celiac and I really need the calcium for other reasons so pls let us know when and how much to add. I totally understand and respect why others cannot use it.

The reason for the comment is actually because I’m having issues using Google. When I search for once a month mom and click on the gluten free link sometimes I am only getting a page with a single ad in the upper left hand corner and I can’t move past it.

    • Kelly says:

Julie it could be what browser you are using. There are known issues with safari and firefox and our site.

    • mindy says:

Julie–I will definitely still be listing those recipes where cheese might be a nice addition. I will just list it as optional and the amount will still be listed. It just won’t be an ingredient that makes/ breaks the recipe. Make sense?

      • Julie Schultz says:

It makes perfect sense. I’m cooking for eight people each month. We need leftovers for lunch due to allergies etc .. Anyway, it seems like every month I have at least one wrong ingredient in the produce/chopping section. This month it seems to be carrots, but I’m concerned about some of the others. Can you check the carrots please? I only see 2.67 on the only recipe that has carrots. Thank You and God Bless you for doing this!

        • Just one more note, I thought of something. If you want me to check chopping amounts for 8 ppl, I can help you with that. I just didn’t want to be too “critical” cause I really do appreciate that you are doing this

        • mindy says:

Hi Julie. I appreciate your offer and your feedback. We are looking into this and will have an answer for you today. Thanks!

  6. What’s the amount of carrots for this menu for 8 ppl? The recipe amount does not match the amount on the chopping list.
