Whole Foods Homemade Cranberry Sauce Recipe

Canned jellied cranberry sauce may be a staple at your table during the holidays, however my family has almost always had homemade and jellied. I prefer the homemade version myself as a little palette cleanser in between helpings. You can even make this recipe a few days ahead, or weeks and freeze it to save you the time come Thanksgiving week!

  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup sugar or sucanat
  • Zest from one lemon
  • Zest from one orange
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 16 ounces fresh organic cranberries

In a medium saucepan, boil water, zests, sugar and extract until sugar has dissolved. Then add the cranberries and bring back to a boil. Let boil for 3 minutes, then reduce to a low simmer and let cook uncovered for about 15 minutes. You can leave it chunky or use an immersion blender to blend it smooth. Remove from heat and let sit until cool. Place into serving dish and serve!

Freezing Directions:

Prepare as outlined below. Let cool and place into freezer safe container or ziploc bag until ready to serve. TO SERVE: Thaw in refrigerator then serve.

Servings: 3 cups
