Once A Month Mom Membership Updates

We announced on Monday that starting Saturday, September 1 a portion of Once A Month Mom content will come under paid membership. Since then we have had several questions that fall out of the scope of our FAQ’s that we wanted to address. So here are a few things you should note.

Site Outage

Starting at 8:00 pm (EST), Friday, August 31 (today) the site will be down for maintenance as we make this transition. It will not be available again until early Saturday morning the 1st. Please print off any cooking documents you might need if you are cooking this evening. If you have immediate questions that you would like answered, please visit us at our Facebook Fan Page.

Membership Costs

  • Regular Rate (October 1, 2012 on) – $8/month or $72/year
  • Discount Rate (September 1-30, 2012) – $7/month or $63 year
  • Email Subscriber Rate – This rate is not advertised. If you are an email subscriber you will receive this rate in your email in-box early, early, early Saturday morning with a link for getting your discounted membership. PLEASE check your email BEFORE you come over to the site for membership. We will not be offering refunds for purchases made under the regular rate.

Membership Options

  • We originally thought that we would be offering quarterly and yearly rates but as it turns out we are limited to monthly and yearly rates.
  • If you choose monthly as your rate you will be able to have your initial discount price for up to a year at that rate. IF you cancel for a month and then come back on at a later time you will NOT receive the discounted rate.
  • Yearly memberships give you 3 months free.
  • Gift Memberships – you can GIFT a yearly membership to someone, anyone that you know.
  • We will work in future weeks to see if we can come up with a usable system for those of you that want to gift a membership to a stranger or to donate membership to another OAMM reader. More on this in the weeks to come.

When can I sign up as a member?

Starting September 1, early in the morning. It will be very obvious where and how you will buy your membership. Your membership will be immediately activated.

Thanks for the tip to get recipes today – I am cooking tomorrow am! Will be back to sign up for membership tomorrow and get Sept’s Gluten/Dairy Free menu!!

  2. Kristen says:

Will any of the older menus be available still outside of membership? What will still be available for those of us who might not be able to afford it? I love this site and just found out about it.

  3. Amanda says:

I tried to go to the “create your own menu” under resourses and get a “for members only” error. I thought this was starting tomorrow?

  4. Andrea says:

I’m actually excited about the changes. I’ve longed to be a once a month Mommer, but each menu always has several things in it that my family won’t eat so I haven’t bothered taking the time to customize a menu and do all the work. The fact that a menu will allow me to do that makes the membership fees 200% worth it for this family!

    Can’t wait for tomorrow!

Andrea – just to clarify – that functionality (mix/match menus) will NOT be available tomorrow. It is a feature we are hoping we can add when we get a paid membership base enough to afford it.

    Hi Tricia,

I found your site a few weeks ago and made my first month menu about two weeks ago. When I saw the site was going fee-based, I signed up for the newsletter. i didn’t get the newsletter on Saturday and had to pay the $63/year because I couldn’t find a way to contact you without subscribing first. Any chance for a wee refund? Regardless, good luck with the site!

BTW – On a different note. I briefly saw a forum called “chick chat” but now can’t find it. Thanks!

  7. Nan says:

So sad you went to paid membership. As a military family, we loved this free site and the many budget-friendly recipes. I can’t justify the cost of your site right now. Sad to say goodbye…

    • Tricia says:

Nan, you should click over to the announcement post linked here – only 10% of the site is fee based.

      • Nan says:

Yes, but it is the 10% that actually gives the shopping lists and cooking day directions. That’s the most important part of the site or you probably wouldn’t be charging for it. I wish you’d given an option — ad free paid site or free site with lots of ads. Some sites offer that option.

        • Tricia says:

We left 2.5 years of free menus. And that “important part” takes at least 10 hours PER MENU, multiply that by 8. . .

        • So sad says:

SO very sad that it is paid membership for instructions now – the grocery list I can make myself but the instructions for the big cooking day are the whole point to this time saving website. I get that each menu takes 10 hours, as you previously stated, and that you have 8 menus but when you do the math that comes out to 80 hours – half the hours a typical working Mom clocks in a month and you have a team to divide the work between – this was so great for so many people and in an economy where barely anyone can afford another extra cost, it is sad to see that this is the choice you made for your subscribers.

        • Tricia says:

All the menus prior to 2012 are still free, feel free to use those. We understand that the economy is tight but it is for everyone, our writers and our time included. We still have plenty of resources available to help you create your own.

hi! i purchased a membership, will you be sending my login information? excited to get started with the september menu:) thank you for all your hard work!!

  9. erin says:

I subscribe via google reader. Is there some sort of discount for that?

  10. Brittany says:

I’m kinda sad about this. I printed our first month to try, but lost a page from my grocery list. The fee is nominal, but I don’t really want to pay for it, should it turn out that this is just NOT for me.
