Savoring the Seasons with Our Best Bites


I am a cookbook hoarder. No, really, I am. I may or may not have them located in three different places in my house. Lately, I’ve been collecting recipes from food blogs on Pinterest, eliminating my desire to purchase cookbooks. However, when one of my favorite food blogs, Our Best Bites, publishes a book, well, it was a no-brainer.  Their first cookbook is one of the most used in my kitchen, and I couldn’t wait to dig into the new one.

Savoring the Seasons with Our Best Bites is a year-round cookbook separated into seasons with recipes relevant to that season. We here at Once A Month Mom love this because we base our menus around seasonal produce and sales.  It also includes a bookmark with measurement equivalents on it, one of my favorite things about the first book.  It even has great tutorials and crafts sprinkled throughout, like Easter egg dying and cupcakes in a jar. But, the recipes……oh, the recipes.

Each recipe has a beautiful photo, which I love.  If you’ve followed Our Best Bites for any length of time, you know that they have “real” recipes. Recipes that don’t have long lists of ingredients, or things you think you will only make on special occasions.  They feature recipes that families will like. And eat. That’s huge for me, and the recipes included in this cookbook are no exception.  I am completely in love with the “Autumn” section of the book.  Apple Butter Pork Chops is on my weekly menu this week and I’ve already told my mom that I am making the Italian Sausage Stuffing for Thanksgiving this year.

But, my favorite feature of the book is the Rollover index. It is so handy for ingredients that you may buy for one recipe and then have leftover. For example, let’s say you bought buttermilk to make the Chunky Monkey Pancakes. If you look back at the Rollover Ingredients index in the back under “Buttermilk”, it gives you 5 other recipes in the cookbook that use buttermilk! How handy! With all of these fabulous features AND all of the mouth-watering recipes, this is one cookbook that you don’t want to pass up!

    This cookbook looks amazing! Thank you for the recommendation! I bought a copy of their first cookbook last night and spent the evening curled up (with my Kindle) drooling over the great recipes. I will have to check out their blog. Thanks again!
