  • 1 ½ cups Flour, Gluten Free All-Purpose
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • ½ teaspoons Xanthan Gum
  • ½ teaspoons Cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons Sugar
  • ½ cups Butter, Dairy Free
  • ½ teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • ¼ cups Applesauce
  • 4 tablespoons Water, Cold
  • ½ cups Strawberry Jam
  • 2 tablespoons Almond Milk, Plain, Unsweetened
  • ½ cups Powdered Sugar

Oven Cook

These directions are for cooking this recipe to serve immediately and NOT to freeze for later.

  1. In a large bowl combine flour, salt, xantham gum, cinnamon, and sugar.
  2. Using your hands, cut in the dairy free butter, then add vanilla and applesauce until dough is crumbly.
  3. Gradually add the ice water and combine until it is absorbed, being careful not to over work the dough.
  4. Form dough in to a ball and wrap tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  5. After refrigerated, roll dough out to 1/4" thickness onto a lightly floured surface.
  6. Using a pizza cutter, roll out equal sized rectangles- twice the number of indicated poptarts. You may need to re-roll to cut additional rectangles. **Note - using a ruler will help you to get precise, straight lines

  8. Place a single layer of rectangle shaped dough pieces on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
  9. Place 2 teaspoons strawberry jam in the center of the each piece, then top with the remaining rectangles of dough.
  10. Using a fork, seal the edges of the pop tarts.
  11. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes or just until tops start to turn golden brown.
  12. Allow pop tarts to cool completely.
  13. Meanwhile, combine almond milk and powdered sugar in a small bowl.
  14. Evenly spread glaze over the top of cooled pop tarts.

      1. Thank you!! The additional link is very helpful. I think I will still make my own dough, I like to use as little preservatives in my cooking as possible. These look amazing!

      1. Hi, there! If the flour you are using to replace the FG flour has xanthan gum in it, you may be safe to go without it. However, if it does not -it may not hold up as well. We’d love to hear how it goes for you if you give it a try!

      1. I tried this with coconut oil today with good results. The dough was very hard upon removal from the refrigerator and the dough was a little crumbly, but if you don’t mind a rustic look to your pastries, they turned out nicely!

        1. Meredith – Thanks so much for sharing your adjustments. Coconut oil would be a great sub for the dairy free butter! I have made these quite a few time for my family, and I did find that I had to let the dough sit for a few minutes after removing from refrigerator to be able to roll out.
