One of the most treasured Christmas presents I received, was this recipe. My mom had taken on a little DIY project and the end result was a framed recipe in my late Grandma’s handwriting, including a photo of her as a young girl on the side. This very simple present has hung in my kitchen ever since and warms my heart every time I see it. Making your own can be done in a few simple steps.
Choose a recipe. I am fortunate enough to have several recipes handwritten by both of my grandmas, as well as ones written by my children and other family members. In this age of high-tech gadgets, emails, and texts, writing out a recipe on a recipe card and sharing it is almost a thing of the past.
Include a photo. This can be any photo of your choice, from one of you and your child making sugar cookies, to one of your great grandmother as a young girl. In keeping with the Heritage look of this project, black & white or sepia toned photos stand out well.
Rummage/Scavage/or whatever you call it! Check your junk drawer, your project closet, or your kids’ craft center. You only need a small size of scrapbooking paper or card stock for the background. You will also need a frame. I like to stock up on garage sale frames and then spray paint them for my DIY projects. 4X6 frame size works well with a recipe card size project.
Create! This is the simplest part of the project…with the help of double-sided adhesive tape, or a glue stick, you can adhere the recipe and picture onto the paper and put it into the frame in about 5 minutes!
Share! Once you have made and gifted one of these, I am sure you will receive the ooh’s and ahh’s of others, and you will want to create even more! Have fun, include your kids, and make memories!
