Baby Food Holiday Side Dishes

Dressing is one of my all time favorite holiday dishes.  However our family’s favorite recipe, Italian Sausage Dressing is a little too rich for a baby.  To make this recipe more suitable for a baby I adapted my recipe, taking out the sausage, but leaving all the great flavor.  This homemade savory dressing would be suitable for an older baby or even the toddlers in your family! The dressing is easy to make and can be cooked alongside your traditional dressing as you prepare your holiday meal.

Ingredients:

Directions:

Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Saute the onion and celery until they are translucent, but not brown. Transfer the onions and celery to a bowl and add the bread cubes, herbs, pepper and broth or water. Mix well. Grease a small oven-proof dish and spoon in the stuffing mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top.

Freezing Directions:

The dressing can be prepared in advance and stored in the refrigerator or freezer before baking.  To serve, thaw (if frozen) and bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top.

More Holiday Side Dishes

Looking for more holiday side dishes?  Try some of these great recipes from Once a Month Meals.

Green Bean Casserole (6+ Months)

If your baby is not ready for the creamy richness of your green bean casserole, you might want to try this substitute.  This recipe makes 12 cubes (if you freeze it), so you could easily make this dish ahead and thaw when you are ready to have your holiday meal.

Homemade Applesauce (4+ Months)

Applesauce is a great side dish because you can season it to your baby’s taste.  A little dash of cinnamon or nutmeg gives applesauce a wonderful holiday flavor.  For younger babies you may want to decrease or eliminate the amount of sugar you add to your applesauce.

Fruity Cinnamon Squash Puree (6+ months)

Winter squash is often a favorite dish on our holiday table and perhaps yours too! Try this fruity puree for your baby with a little cinnamon to give it that holiday appeal.
