How long have you been blogging about food?
Since 2009. Hard to believe it’s been almost 6 years.
Have you always loved cooking, or was it a skill that you learned to love? Who taught you to cook?
I always loved cooking, but once I was diagnosed with Lyme disease, polysystic ovarian syndrome, hypothyroidism and numerous food intolerances (gluten, dairy, soy) I dug into cooking even more to explore how to create flavor without all those toxic foods that were causing inflammation in my body.
What is your favorite meal to serve to family and friends? What is your favorite treat to make for yourself?
Kale salads with almonds and avocados! My favorite!
What is your favorite kitchen tool or gadget? Tell us a little about how you fell in love with it and how you use it in your kitchen.
My food processor. I use it for everything. My Kitchenaid food processor is amazing. I create everything from guacamole to salsa to pates and dips like hummus. It’s amazing and makes it so much easier for me to digest my food!
When you are meal planning or looking for new recipes, what kind of guidelines do you follow for choosing them?
Always free of gluten, dairy, soy, sugar, and always eating 100% organic. I get my inspiration from walking the streets of Manhattan – everything from green grass (kale salads) to white clouds (crumbled macadamia nut cheese) is an inspiration for me.
What items are ALWAYS on your grocery list? What items will you NEVER put on your grocery list?
Always raw nuts, seeds, avocado, organic veggies, and lean proteins like organic chicken and turkey. Never anything processed, never refined sugar, never anything with chemicals in them because they’re too inflammatory for my system.
Tell us the best kitchen tip or trick that you’ve ever discovered.
Roasting veggies in the oven brings out their natural flavors. All you need is oil, sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper, and bam!
What do you like to do when you aren’t cooking or blogging?
Walking around Manhattan and soaking up the amazing energy in this city.
Have you ever experimented with freezer cooking?
Yes! I’ll freeze anything!
