How to Make Minced Garlic {KitchenAid Hand Blender Review}

There is not an ingredient that gets used more often in my kitchen than garlic. We love garlic. It gets added to almost every meal I ever make. Well, except desserts and I don’t make a whole lot of those.

Minced Garlic Using the KitchenAid Hand Blender.

Our Once A Month Meals menus use quite a bit of garlic as well. And until recently I have been a firm believer in just buying the store bought minced garlic. Until recently. When you need 45 cloves of garlic for a menu it seems a bit intimidating to make your own. But as I have been trying to use more fresh and local ingredients in our cooking I have been amazed over the flavor difference. And when I was at the farmer’s market a few weekends ago and there was a bag of fresh garlic on sale, the wheels began to turn. If other ingredients are tasting better the fresher they are, what about my garlic? So I bought the whole bag and set to making my own minced garlic. I had the help of the new KitchenAid Hand Blender {on Steroids} to put to the test also. A hand blender with a food chopper attachment? Yes, please! I have been looking to add a food chopper to my kitchen, a mini one so that I don’t have to get the food processor out all the time for the little jobs, and I was so pleased to find that this hand blender came with one.

The toolbox for women who love the kitchen.

It came with a kit that was a bit like a toolkit for women. I opened it like it contained my favorite hammer and screwdriver but instead held a treasure trove of tools for using in my kitchen. Need to blend something? No problem. Need to chop something? No problem. Need to whisk some eggs for a holiday meringue pie? KitchenAid has you covered. Honestly, I have had a hand blender for nearly 5 years and only recently used it for the first time. I just don’t do a whole lot of gravies, soups and such that call for one. So really, justifying the purchase of one that will take up space would be a challenge for a future purpose, even though on occasions I really do need it. But given that this hand blender has all that and more, it is justifiable. I do need a hand mixer or blender from time to time. And I also need a food chopper quite regularly as well. So the fact that this hand blender is all packaged together with all the tools is an amazing thing! Here is how I made minced garlic using the KitchenAid Hand Blender {on Steroids}.

I used this method of peeling the garlic. It was not only very effective, it was highly therapeutic. I recommend it when you are stressed out! After peeling the garlic I put it in the chopper cup with the chopping blades. I pulsed it several seconds until the garlic was well minced. I then placed the garlic in a disposable plastic container and added white wine until it was covered. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to 4 months. When I need a clove of garlic for a recipe I will portion out 1 teaspoon which is the equivalent. **Note: research shows that garlic stored in olive oil at room temperature can create botulism (a deadly bacteria). Research doesn’t say much about refrigerator storage, but to be safe please follow recommended guidelines.
