Make It Now Cooking Directions

These directions are for cooking this recipe to serve immediately and NOT to freeze for later.

  1. In a mixing bowl sift flour, sugar and salt together, cutting in the butter #1.
  2. Make a hollow in the center of the dry ingredients.
  3. Add eggs, and vanilla #1 to the well.
  4. Dissolve baking soda in hot water and add to egg and vanilla.
  5. Using your hands, stir the flour into the wet mixture.
  6. Cover and place in fridge for several hours.
  7. Dust flour onto a clean working surface and roll dough to approximately x 1/4 inch thickness. I usually do about 1/4 of the dough at a time, for ease of rolling and cutting.
  8. Using your favorite cookie cutters, begin to cut the shapes from the dough, re rolling and adding more dough in as needed.
  9. Place cookies on greased cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 5-10 minutes or until just starting to turn light brown.
  10. Cool cookies completely on rack before frosting.
  11. For frosting, blend butter #2 and powdered sugar with a mixer.
  12. Stir in the vanilla #2 and milk, beating until frosting is smooth and of spreading consistency.
  13. Divide into bowls, adding food coloring if desired.
  14. Decorate cookies as desired.
