Make It Now Cooking Directions

These directions are for cooking this recipe to serve immediately and NOT to freeze for later.

  1. **Due to the nature of pressure cooking there is always room for inconsistency. The times given here are based on 4 servings fresh. If you are using more servings you may need to increase your cooking time.**
  2. Combine rice, apples, onions, cranberries, thyme, basil, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
  3. Place rice mixture in the Instant Pot. Add the water and broth. Stir well and top with chicken.
  4. Lock the lid in place and seal the steam nozzle.
  5. Cook on high pressure for 25 minutes.
  6. Quick release the pressure.

  1. I doubled the recipe, did 25 minutes, then 10 minutes natural release, and the rice was way too mushy. This was from fresh, not frozen.

    1. We’re sorry this recipe didn’t turn out as you’d hoped and will pass this on to our team. Thanks for your feedback!

  2. From my experience: If you are making recipe for serving now, do not add the water…..just the chicken broth. Step #3 in the Make it Now directions should just read “…. Add the broth…..”

  3. I loved the concept of this recipe. However, had some issues. To get the wild rice to the consistency I like I put it in the instapot for 20, quick released then added the ingredients and chicken. I did love the rice! The apples and cranberries were a great combo! However, the chicken was overcooked and bland. I will be using your ingredient list for the rice in the future, but next time will bake the chicken separately. Great concept though. Thanks for the new wild rice recipe!

    1. Hi Celeste, thanks so much for your feedback. I’m sorry you found the chicken to be overcooked and bland. We will pass that along to our Menu Builder team to review. So glad you loved the rice!
