These directions are for cooking this recipe to serve immediately and NOT to freeze for later.

  1. Combine all dry ingredients in a large bowl and set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, greek yogurt, eggs, food coloring and vanilla.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  4. Fold the chocolate chips into the batter.
  5. On a hot griddle, pour about 1/3 cup of batter and lightly brown both sides.
  6. Repeat until all batter is cooked.

  1. do you think I could make the batter tonight and have ready to throw on the griddle for tomorrow am before school? also, I do not have buttermilk but do have whole milk- would that be ok? thanks!

    1. Yes, you can make the batter up ahead of time. And if you use whole milk add 1 Tablespoon of vinegar for every 1 cup of milk and let it sit for 5 minutes before adding it to the recipe, that will give you buttermilk.
