Make It Now Cooking Directions
These directions are for cooking this recipe to serve immediately and NOT to freeze for later.
- In a large saucepan melt butter over low heat.
- Add marshmallows and stir until fully melted.
- Remove from heat.
- Add crisp rice cereal and stir until all is well-coated.
- Divide between 2 greased 9x13 pans.
- Press mixture down with wax paper until you have a fairly thin layer.
- Let set for an hour.
- Cut into squares/ rectangles or use a cookie cutter to achieve desired shape(s). You will need an even number.
- Place wax paper down in a separate 9×13 pan and place ice cream on the wax paper.
- Using another piece of wax paper press the ice cream down until it completely covers the pan.
- Freeze for at least 2 hours or until the ice cream becomes firm again.
- One side of the crisp rice treat can be decorated in any way desired.
- Remove the 9×13 pan from the freezer and using the same cookie cutter shapes cut out an ice cream shape.
- Place a crisp rice treat shape on the bottom, followed by the ice cream shape and topped with the decorated crisp rice treat shape.
- Serve.

Join the discussionHmm, one of my favorite all time snacks is rice krispy treats. I can even have them still as a diabetic. Wish I could get a campaign like that! How lucky you are!
My in-laws make krispy treats for easter with little egg shaped gum drops. They spend quite a while cutting every little egg in half and then stir them into the mix towards the end.
Ohhhh – I LOVE this idea! You’re right too, endless variations on this with colors and toppings and such!
