Make It Now Cooking Directions

These directions are for cooking this recipe to serve immediately and NOT to freeze for later.

Visit Mom Endeavors for same day cooking instructions.

Freeze For Later Cooking Directions

These directions help you cook or prepare this meal PRIOR to being frozen for serving later (see Serving Day Directions when you are ready to prepare it to eat).

Why would I want to freeze this?

  1. Divide chopped potatoes, carrots, onions, and garlic among half of indicated number of gallon sized freezer bags, placing the potatoes on the bottom of the bag.
  2. Fill the bag with water until it covers the potatoes (prevents browning).
  3. Freeze brisket separately in other half of gallon freezer bags. Label and freeze both bags.

Make From Frozen Serving Day Directions

These directions help you cook or reheat this meal AFTER it's been frozen for when you are ready to eat it.

  1. Thaw: In fridge
  2. Drain off water from vegetables and place in the slow cooker.
  3. Rub brisket with the spice packet and place on top.
  4. Add bay leaf and pour lager beer over the top of the meat.
  5. Cook on low for 8-10 hours. Meat will be fork tender.
  6. Thirty minutes to one hour before serving, add cabbage wedges. Cabbage should be crisp tender when served.
