Join the discussionWhat is “clean bacon?” And where would one find it?
Clean bacon refers to nitrite and nitrate free bacon. And if you are following the Whole30 Plan, that also includes no sugar.
Would I get similar results if I used dairy milk or almond milk? I know that would take the paleo out of the recipe, but we have coconut allergies in our house and can’t use it. This recipe looks awesome and I really want to try it but don’t want to screw up the taste, either 🙂
Either should work just fine. Since the coconut milk I used was full fat from a can, you might just need to use a little less since dairy milk and almond milk from a carton tend to be a little more liquified. Let us know how it goes!
Made this today and have to throw it all out. It is awful. Would be good (but not paleo) if you subbed butter for the coconut oil and cream cheese for the coconut milk.
I’m sorry you didn’t like the recipe Alisha. My family enjoyed it (and my kids who are hard to please!). But, we certainly all have different tastes and preferences.Removing dairy from a recipe to make it compliant to the Paleo lifestyle is an adjustment for sure.
Sounds good… thinking of using cashew cream instead of coconut milk.. but I grateful for the wonderful idea!
Just want to let you know my husband and I love this meal :). It’s one of our top freezer meals, and we aren’t even paleo people. We serve it over rice and add some veggies.
Awesome! Glad you love it, Sheena!
Could this recipe be right for batch cooking? How do you get 6 1 cup servings if only using 1 3/4 C cooked beef?
There are over 4.5 cups of sliced mushrooms in this skillet dish as well as almost 2 cups of bacon. So yes, it more than makes up for it. 🙂
