Oven Cook

These directions are for cooking this recipe to serve immediately and NOT to freeze for later.

  1. Cream butter and sugar in large mixing bowl.
  2. Add whole egg, egg yolk (reserve egg white), shredded almond paste, and almond extract; beat until well combined.
  3. Stir in flour.
  4. Spray indicated number of baking pans with cooking spray.
  5. Spread the almond mixture into baking pan.
  6. Beat egg white until foamy and brush over the top.
  7. Sprinkle with sliced almonds.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until lightly browned.
  9. Allow to cool thoroughly before slicing into 2 inch squares.

  1. Oh, I looooove almond goodies, and these look wonderful. If you don’t mind, I have a couple of questions.How long should they bake?Also, I’m new to freezing things like this – do I just thaw them on the counter? Do I need to give them a short re-baking? If I thaw them on the counter, about how long can I expect them to take to thaw?Sorry if these are dumb questions, I kind of wandered my way over here, and I didn’t even know site existed until about ten minutes ago! Thank you!

    1. They should bake 35 to 40 minutes – looking back at my recipe, I realized I forgot the last couple of steps – sorry!Yes, you can just thaw them on the counter and no need to bake any further. They thaw pretty quickly, within about 2 hours. And if you’re impatient, you can even eat them frozen (not that I’ve tried that… ;)I’m glad you stumbled over here and I hope you enjoy the great recipes we have here!

Hey…i remember eating something of this sort at a friends house…it was like a cake, but too moist and chewy to be a cake….she called them almond squares….she had promised to give me the recipe but then she got married, moved to anther continent and now i dont even have her contact number….been crazily searching for the recipe and i am so glad i found it here..wonderful space btw…wil surely try out these almond squares
