Old Fashioned Almond Squares

<p>Make these almond squares ahead and freeze to make a great treat with coffee when your holiday guests arrive. These bars are definitely company worthy!</p>

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Butter, Unsalted
  • 3/4 cups Sugar
  • 1 individual Egg
  • 1 individual Egg Yolk
  • 1/2 cups shred Almond Paste
  • 1 teaspoon Almond Extract
  • 2 cups Flour, All-Purpose
  • 1 individual Egg White
  • 1/4 cups Almonds, Slivered

  1. Cream butter and sugar in large mixing bowl.
  2. Add whole egg, egg yolk (reserve egg white), shredded almond paste, and almond extract; beat until well combined.
  3. Stir in flour.
  4. Spray indicated number of baking pans with cooking spray.
  5. Spread the almond mixture into baking pan.
  6. Beat egg white until foamy and brush over the top.
  7. Sprinkle with sliced almonds.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until lightly browned.
  9. Allow to cool thoroughly before slicing into 2 inch squares.
