Oven Cook

These directions are for cooking this recipe to serve immediately and NOT to freeze for later.

  1. Sift together all purpose flour, salt and soda. Add whole wheat flour and sugar and mix until combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together buttermilk, milk and oil.
  3. Add milk mixture to flour mix; mix just until combined. Do not over mix.
  4. Form dough into a round, flat loaf. Place on a greased baking sheet.
  5. Bake at 400F oven for 15 minutes.
  6. Reduce heat to 375F and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes. Remove from oven when golden brown.
  7. Cool on a wire rack before cutting.

  1. try replacing the milk and buttermilk with a can of beer. It will rise, add some honey or a tad more sugar if you use dark beer, leave out the sugar if you use a light beer.

    1. Brenda – Great Question! I have never tried it with either. If you experiment please do let us know the results. I don’t have a lot of experience in adapting bread recipes to using almond or coconut. However an AP Gluten Free Flour would probably work.
