A Sunny Saturday at the Farmer’s Market

When my husband told me earlier in the week he had to work on Saturday, I was first sad to lose a weekend family day, but quickly grew excited that I could use the morning to head to one of the best Farmer’s Market’s in the state. May is typically the official start to the Farmer’s Market season, but The Boulder County Farmer’s Market starts in April. I believe it is one of the best markets around with such a variety of vegetables, breads, cheeses, meats, flowers, seeds, artisan products, you name it there’s more than likely a booth.

What do you need to shop at the Farmer’s Market?

  • First and foremost, not sure where your nearest market is? Head on over to here and simply enter your zip code and discover local goodness!
  • Grab your reusable bags, or reuse some from the store.
  • Cash is always preferred, and at most markets these days you can get what they call “Market Bucks”. Simply find the booth for the Market itself, and they’ll swipe your credit or debit card and give you market bucks to use. There are also many markets in quite a few areas that will accept food assistance benefits. Just make sure you contact the market prior to arrival to verify.
  • Here's my re-usable bag, which I fill to the top. And my coffee mug, a necessity for my market trips.

A full water bottle is last on the list. The samples are one of the best reasons we love to head to the market, and with all the walking and talking you’re sure to get parched.
  • A small notepad, or a handy note taking app on your smart phone. Write down your favorite booths, tips from the vendors, or store any business or recipe cards you picked up.

Here were my finds this weekend:
