Once a month cooking (OAMC) and food allergies

**We now have allergen friendly menus and ability to search Menu Builder for recipes to help you!**

Nearly a month ago a reader, Tara, wrote me to say that she was excited to see the site but was also dealing with a son that had quite a few allergies (milk, soy, eggs, peanuts, and shellfish). As always, it would be great if I had more time and could make the necessary adjustments for the dietary needs, but there just isn’t enough time in my month. Tara understood and still wanted to do OAMM AND meet the needs of her family (and share with you).

So Tara did A LOT of extra work and made necessary ingredient changes and substituted some items to make the our June Menu work for her and her family.

This is also a great example of how you too can make simple changes to the menu to meet the needs of your family. Whether it is a heart condition, allergies, diabetes there are always simple changes that can be made to adjust the menu to suit your situation. It simply takes a little time. And it is way more healthy and inexpensive than eating out or last minute shopping and cooking.

Tara has also agreed to field questions from you as you look over the menu (taraspitzer at gmail.com). Please keep in mind, that like us, she is human and there may be a mistake here and there. We just appreciate her sharing her resources and knowledge.

Thank you Tara!!

  1. I’m so glad its turning out to be of some use. It’s something I wanted to do, and glad it helps others. If you have specific questions or modifications you want to make, let me know and I’ll be glad to try to help. Some recipes is substituted with similar ones, and some I just made modifications. So glad it helps!

  2. This great! I have a son with egg allergies and when doing the May menu, found that 1 T of ground flax seed mixed with 3T of water is a good egg substitute!

  3. My daughter has the same experience, she can’t eat those food that cause her skin allergies. Like egg, chicken, peanuts, and shrimps. And there are times, that I wanted to eat especially nuts, but thinking of her that might be danger again with her health. I appreciate that I will be able to try your suggestion and guess it will be the solution.
