Baby Food (9-12 Month): Sweet Potato and Broccoli Puree

On July 3, 2012 by Kelly

The sweet potato is a staple in first foods for baby, easy to prep and digest, with a very mild flavor.  When your baby transitions onto trying more blends, the pairing of the sweet potato and broccoli is perfect start.  Depending on your babies age and eating habits, you can blend the texture to be very smooth, or a little chunkier for the more advanced eater.

Ingredients:

Directions:

Place sweet potato and broccoli in saucepan, covering with water.  Bring to a boil.  Boil for 1 minute, then turn down to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes until vegetables are tender.  Drain. Transfer to blender and add applesauce.  Puree to desired consistency, adding water if necessary.

Freezing Directions:

Follow directions above.  Cool puree completely.  Transfer mixture to a non freezer gallon bag.  Cut a small hole in the bottom corner of the bag and use it to pour/squeeze the puree into ice cube trays.  DO NOT OVERFILL.  Only fill each cube up to the sides and not overflowing the sides.  Cover each tray with aluminum foil and label.  Freeze for at least 24 hours before transferring to a quart or gallon freezer bag for long-term storage.

Servings: 16 cubes
