Pure and Simple Apple Puree

One my favorite things to do in the fall is to visit local apple orchards.  Taking home bushels of the best of the harvest, my family enjoys everything from apple sauce to apple pies.  There is no reason the littlest ones in the family can’t enjoy the goodness of fresh seasonal apples as well.  This pure and simple puree is perfect for your 6-9 month old, or add a little cinnamon and sugar to sweeten for older taste buds!

Ingredients:

  • 6 large Braeburn apples, peeled, cored and diced

Directions:

Place apples into a saucepan and fill with just enough water to cover apples.  Boil until tender.  Drain water from apples, reserving in a separate bowl and let cool.  Transfer to a blender, and blend to desired consistency, using cooking water to thin if needed.

Freezing Directions:

Transfer mixture to a non freezer gallon bag.  Cut a small hole in the bottom corner of the bag and use it to pour/squeeze the puree into ice cube trays.  DO NOT OVERFILL.  Only fill each cube up to the sides and not overflowing the sides.  Cover each tray with aluminum foil and label.  Freeze for at least 24 hours before transferring to quart sized freezer storage bags.  TO SERVE:  Thaw desired number of cubes.  Warm in microwave 5-10 seconds before serving if desired.

Servings: 16 cubes
