Meet Angela. She is a OAMM Member and test cook! She is also a busy working momma, and freezer cooking helps her save time and money.
Angela will be cooking her first full freezer meal menu along with you for our next Virtual Cooking Weekend, April 22-24.
How long have you been freezer cooking? How did you discover OAMM?
I have been freezer cooking for over 3 years. I discovered Once a Month Meals through Pinterest.
WHY do you freezer cook?
I freezer cook because I work very long hours, and I want one less thing to worry about at night. Plus it saves my family money because we always have a meal to eat and don’t have to order take out for dinner.
How is freezer cooking hard? How does it make your life easy?
The hardest part about freezer cooking is occupying my daughter while I am cooking. I try to have one of my parents come over on the day I am cooking so that I don’t have to keep her busy while I am cooking.
Tell us about your kitchen.
My kitchen is fairly large and has a lot of counter-space which makes once a month cooking easier. I like to have one counter with all of the non-refrigerated ingredients laid out so I don’t have to go searching for them. I also have a box that I keep on the counter will all the spices called for in the recipes. I can just pull out the spices and put them back in the box, without having to search through my cabinets. My favorite appliance is my immersion blender. It is a multi-function tool that doesn’t take up a lot of space and is easy to clean.
What is your best tip for first time freezer cook?
My best tip is to clean the dishes as you go along. I have tried both ways (cleaning as I went and waited until I was finished to clean). I was much happier when I cleaned as I worked. At the end of the day I am always exhausted, and the last thing I want to do is the dishes. I really don’t want to have to wake up and do them the next day.
