There are a handful of holiday recipes that evoke nostalgic memories of my childhood. Great Grandma’s Sugar Cookies, Cherry Mash and Holly Leaves. The simplicity of these brightly colored green treats topped with cinnamon imperials (red hots) instantly transports me back to my childhood holidays and envelops me with warm memories of a simpler time, a less rushed season, and family.

Ingredients:
16 large Marshmallows
1/4 cup Butter
1/2 tsp Vanilla
1/2 tsp Green Food Coloring
2 1/4 cups Cornflakes Cereal
Cinnamon Imperials
Directions:
In a saucepan over medium low heat, combine marshmallows and butter until melted. Stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and add vanilla and green food coloring. Stirring until all the food coloring is mixed into the marshmallows. Add cornflakes a cup at a time, stirring until all cornflakes are coated with the green marshmallow mixture. Drop by large teaspoonful mounds onto wax paper, topping with 2 cinnamon imperials on top. Pressing down slightly so they stick. (You will need to do this before the cookie part starts to harden, to ensure the cinnamon imperials stick). Let stand for one hour.

Join the discussionMy mother-in-law used to make these all the time for my husband and his brother. Never added the vanilla – that’s a great touch. I will have to pull this out next Christmas to surprise my husband!
