Freezer Cooking and Gym Memberships

What do freezer cooking and gym memberships have in common? Find out what Kelcey learned when she started doing both regularly!

Hi friends,

Kelcey here from Once A Month Meals!

I have been freezer cooking about 2 years now. In that time I have gotten SO much better and more consistent about meal planning and eating well! I have done so well in fact, that I decided there was something else I should be doing along with it… going to the gym again.

Now, I don’t know if you’re anything like me, but I’ve started and stopped a gym membership, Jillian Michael’s video, yoga/pilates class and so on probably at least 12 times in my life… maybe more.

(I know… I’m shaking my head just saying that to you out loud. )

And honest to goodness, all those were really wholesome and honest efforts on my part… at least I thought so. But what I quickly realized is that I wasn’t really prepared to make the commitment right now because it was going to take hard work for me to see the results later.

And there was my disconnect. Now versus later.

It was all about me seeing the long term benefits of what I was investing in. I wasn’t just investing in the membership itself, but I was investing in me! Time for myself, confidence in myself and more.

And friends, I realized something.

Right there as I was desperately trying to push those 15 pound dumb bells over my head.

Freezer cooking is NO different.

Here, let me show you.

It is an investment.

When you join a gym, you sign that dotted line. You invest your money first, and then your time and effort every time you show up for a workout.

A Once a Month Meals Membership does cost money (less than most gyms, though!). And a freezer cooking day does require you to invest some money into your grocery budget, and some time and effort in the kitchen.

You have to plan to do it.

Having a gym membership does NOT make you fit. You have to actually put it on the calendar and GO to the gym!

It is the same with freezer cooking. Buying a membership is the first step, but you have to block out your shopping and cooking time on the calendar and follow through with the plan.

There are tools that make it easier.

Work out plans, exercise machines, space to move, classes – all of these are helpful in making your workout time efficient and effective. If you aren’t the athletic type or you are really trying to reach some specific goals, then you call that personal trainer, right?

We are the personal trainers for freezer cooks! BAM! We give you step by step instructions, walk you through each “exercise” with tips and tricks, and we are here and ready to “spot” for you on your freezer cooking day and help if you run into trouble.

Speaking of which, we have 5 Secrets to Efficient Freezer Meal Planning that we think you’ll find really helpful for this part.

You have to just DO it.

Yes, just like Nike. 😉

Some days you just have to go to the gym, even when you don’t want to. You feel like you don’t have the time or the energy, or you just want to do something more fun. BUT, you prioritize it anyway because of the benefits.

Freezer cooking isn’t for the faint of heart either, but the benefits are SO worth it. So show up! Do it!

The benefits will come.

You lose weight. You lose inches. You get stronger. You run faster. You feel better. You build confidence.

These benefits do come as a result of showing up and doing the work at the gym!

So what do you get out of freezer cooking?

  1. You get the convenience of having dinner planned and prepped.
  2. Your wellness increases because eating healthy isn’t a chore!
  3. You have more time for what matters most!

If you need more convincing that freezer cooking really does save you time, check this out.

You build community & have support from fellow members!

Going to the gym makes you healthier and stronger. You get to be a better version of you for the people you love. But you also start to build community with others who are doing the same thing.

The support of that friend who meets you there and keeps you accountable is invaluable. That teacher or trainer who checks in to see how you are doing really motivates you.

We have an amazing community of freezer cooks right here at Once a Month Meals!

We may be spread far and wide, but that doesn’t mean we can’t encourage each other, share our goals and successes, answer each other’s questions, and keep each other accountable. Our goal for you is to be at the table with people you love, and we will do all we can to help!

Head over to our NEW Community so you can get involved today!

  1. Thank you for what you do! We did a mini menu that we customized. And so far everything is delicious. I do have a question on one recipe. I made the breakfast cookies. I omitted wheat germ. They taste good but really spread out. I don’t know if that made the difference or if it was because I sprayed the pans with butter spray?

    1. Thank you for the awesome feedback, Nancie! It’s hard for us to say for certain without the exact recipe, but we would be happy to review if you could provide us with a link to the recipe you tried? You can reach out to us at ifno@onceamonthmeals.com and we’d be happy to help. 🙂
