After your baby has sampled his/her first foods, it is time to add some combinations into their diet. The smooth texture and sweet taste of the butternut squash, paired with a simple apple puree is a great combination to begin adding in. You can substitute your own homemade apple puree for the applesauce in this recipe as well.
Butternut Squash & Apple Puree
Lisa @ onceamonthmeals.com
- 1.5 cups butternut squash, baked and flesh scooped out
- 0.5 cups applesauce or homemade apple puree
- 0.5 tsp cinnamon
In a blender, puree squash, applesauce and cinnamon. Add water if necessary to reach desired consistency.
Transfer mixture to a nonfreezer gallon bag. Cut a small hole in the bottom corner of the bag and use it to pour/squeeze the purees into ice cube trays. DO NOT OVERFILL. Only fill each cube up to the sides and not overflowing the sides. Cover each tray with aluminum foil and label. Freeze for at least 24 hours before transferring to quart or gallon freezer bags for long-term storage.
