Welcome to our second installment of Summer Peak Produce Picks! Farmer’s Markets, CSA’s and co-ops will be in full swing if they aren’t already. In my area, I’m already seeing roadside stands popping up all over town with the local best.
Summer has some of the most popular offerings produce wise, so this summer peak produce list is rather long. But keep in mind that all of these recipes are freezable. Freezing in-season produce is one of the best ways to preserve the fresh taste and bountiful nutrition for another day. Beat the “winter tomato blues” (you know those colorless, tasteless, sponges that languish on the grocery shelf) by freezing a big batch of fresh from the garden tomato soup.
Flash freeze berries and stone fruits for baking when the temperatures drop again. But of course, live up the long days of summer by sampling some of these tasty treats right now. Smoothies, popsicles, summer salads, and veggies grilled to perfection – all these and more are on our list to enjoy this season.
So, using our meal plans is a first step for using up extras from your garden, CSA, etc. But sometimes you need a targeted approach.
